February Challenge

I don’t know about you but I have a problem sticking with daily task/habits. I will start out totally excited and pumped to do it. Few days in, I’m going strong. Sometimes I even get a week, week and a half where I feel like ‘I can do this’ and then BOOM it’s gone. I’ve dropped it. Sometimes there’s not even a sign that it was going to happen. It just does. Something else catches my attention and I’m gone.

I do wish I was better with it but I have learned that I have to be totally into what I am doing to stick with it. There have only been maybe 4 challenges that I have stuck with, oh wait, I think 5. There was:

I think I like Birgit Koopsen’s challenges! lol

ICAD was the most difficult one to complete. That one felt like torture. The 31 Products was nice and easy and the gel printing ones I really enjoyed. I do love gel printing.

There are things that I enjoy doing that I wish I did more often, or things I want to learn. I’m sure there’s something you too wish you did more often. So I was thinking for this months challenge we would do just that. Choose something you wish you did on a regular basis. Maybe you want to play a musical instrument, read a book, learn a new language, draw, paint, gel print, or even continue with January’s challenge of using up more of your scraps!

I have so many things I want to do, to get back into, to learn…. but one thing at a time.

For February I am choosing ….

Some sketches in a Moleskine Watercolor album. 2017 Denise Lush

Very loose sketching and watercolor. I love looking back in this album. At the time when I was doing it, I wasn’t overly impressed with myself. But looking at it now, I love it. I need to learn to not be so critical of myself. To remind myself that there will be a day I’ll be happy I kept going with it. A day when I will look at it and actually like the artwork!

A sketchbook and a travel watercolor set also doesn’t take up much room. So I was able to take it with me on trips. There’s always bound to be some down time when you can grab your supplies and sketch what you see. Or even take photos and then do some of the sketches when you get back to your room!

Again sketching while on our first trip to the Dominican. Didn’t do much sketching while there.

Then more sketches while visiting our home province.

You don’t need to travel to have a sketchbook either. Just sketch what you see. What’s happening around you. What’s in the news? What’s on your mind? You can sketch anything. You can sketch your salt and pepper shaker! I’ve done that before!

I have also just sketched a metal decor item and a fake plant that both sit outside in the screened porch!

So I am going to try and get back into this. For the month of February I am going to sketch something. It doesn’t have to be anything big. It can be a pen, a leaf on my plant, or the whole plant. Anything. As long as I’m sketching. Every single day for the month of February.

They say it actually takes 21 days to make a habit and 90 to make it a permanent lifestyle change. Now I don’t want to sketch every single day for the rest of my life. But I do want to do it more often. At least once a week. So I thought that maybe doing it for 28 days will help remind me of how much I actually enjoy it.

So are you in? Can you think of something you would like to do every day? Or maybe something you want to learn that you can practice every day?

What is it? What are you choosing for the challenge? Let me know in the comments!

And good luck forming your habit!
